HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Laura Lebrón, shown at right, just wrapped up a run opposite Francis Cruz in the David Harrower two-hander Ave negra. The production was produced by Teo Terrero, directed by Mario Lebrón, and presented in November in the Sala Ravelo at the Teatro Nacional in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Dominican Republic.

Laura Riveros
is acting in a workshop presentation of The Illiterates/Las analfabetas by Pablo Paredes. It will be directed by Tara Elliot, presented in November 
as part of the Escena Sur Contemporary Chilean Play Festival hosted by LaMicro Theater at The Bridge Theater at Shetler Studios, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. For more information, click here.

Manny Herrera, shown at left, was interviewed in an article for the Dominican daily newspaper Diario Libre, where he spoke about the voiceover industry and his participation in the Locución Santo Domingo conference on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Auditorio Juan Bosch at the Biblioteca Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Gilbert Cruz booked a voiceover for an medical industrial regarding cancer care.

Elaine Del Valle, shown at top left in the photo at right, was featured in the article titled "#IAMLATINA" [sic] in the 20th anniversary issue of Latina magazine. To see the article, click on the image at right.

Lucio Fernández (also see belowand MeLu Films/The Grace Theatre Workshop produced the documentary Bahía de Cochinos: Nuestra perspectiva. Directed by Ricardo Bacallao and Fernández, the documentary will be screened on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center in Miami, Florida. 2016 HOLA Awards recipient A.B. Lugo, Lucio Fernández (also see above), 2016 HOLA Awards honoree and recipient Ana Margarita Martínez-Casado, Manolo García Oliva, Carlos Navedo and 2016 HOLA Awards recipient Héctor Luis Rivera were featured in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog, as a result of their participation in the film component of the En Un Acto Theater and Film Festival. The film component of the festival will open with Iván Acosta's El super (which co-starred Martínez-Casado). García Oliva will give a presentation titled "El teatro cubano en Nueva York", about Cuban theater in New York; while Navedo will give a presentation titled "Una leyenda llamada Mapy Cortés", a tribute to the legendary Mexican actress. Lugo, Rivera, and Fernández will be represented in the evening titled "4 cortometrajes en inglés/4 Short Films in English"– Lugo with the award-winning short film ¡Ay, Que Susto! (which he co-wrote with director Mo Zapata, and in which he co-stars); Rivera, with his co-starring in role in Pissin' (written by Saulo Díaz and directed by Fernández); and Fernández, who in addition to his direction of Pissin', is starring in the film Sal (written and directed by John Jay Hebert). The festival, presented by TEBA, will take place in November at the Broadway Blackbox Theater, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.
