HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Marco Antonio Rodríguezshown at right, was profiled in Broadway World, as a result of his upcoming production of his award-winning play La Luz de un cigarrillo. Directed by Rodríguez, the play will star Susanna Guzmán, Arisleyda Lombert, Teresa Yenque, and Juan Carlos Díaz. The play will have performances in February at the Teatro Rafael Villalona at the Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. Eduardo Leáñez will be starring in the interactive children's show De estrellas a elefantes. Written by Leáñez, the play is based on the poetry of Rubén Darío and directed by Yolanny Rodríguez. The Teatro Las Tablas production will be presented in January 2016 at the Teatro Rafael Villalona at the Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. Mario-Francisco Robles, shown at left, recently starred opposite his wife, Kristin Alexandra Robles, as Sid and Babe in a production of the musical The Pajama Game. Written by George Abbott and Richard Bissell (book), and Jerry Adler and Jerry Ross (music and lyrics), the production was directed by Bill Logan and presented in November and December 2015 at the Parkside Players Theater in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens.

José A. Esquea is directing a workshop presentation of ROYGBIV. Written by R. Ernie Silva and Anthony Pearce and starring Silva, the workshop is an official entry in the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) showcase. Choreography duties for the workshop will be handled by Daniel Soto. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Flamboyán Theater  in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center, located in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood. Cedric Leiba, Jr., shown at right, will be playing the role of Tato in a production of the musical Carmen La Cubana. A newly revised bilingual adaptation of Oscar Hammerstein II and Georges Bizet's Carmen Jones, it was first workshopped in Havana, Cuba, before having a reading done of it in New York. The book has been written by Norge Espinosa (who also wrote additional lyrics), Stephen Clark and Christopher Renshaw. Tony winner Alex Lacamoire and Edgar Vero will handle the orchestrations, while Tony nominee Renshaw will handle direction duties. The production will run in April at the Théâtre du Châtelet, located in the first arrondissement of Paris, France. [He received the casting notice through an e-mail announcement that HOLA sends to its members.
