González Iñárritu, García Bernal and Isaac Among 2016 Golden Globe Awards Winners

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) held its 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards on Thursday, December 10, 2015. The Golden Globe Award is an American accolade bestowed by the 93 members of the HFPA recognizing excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign.

The Revenant, co-written and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and produced by González Iñárritu, Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, among others, received three Golden Globe Awards– Best Director for González Iñárritu, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, and Best Motion Picture - Drama. (Incidentally, it is González Iñárritu's second consecutive Golden Globe nomination for directing.)

Also picking up Golden Globes were Gael Garciá Bernal for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy for his work in "Mozart in the Jungle" (Amazon), which also won the award for Best Series - Musical or Comedy; and Oscar Isaac for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his work in "Show Me a Hero" (HBO).

Also noteworthy was the appearance of Eva Longoria and América Ferrera as presenters. The Golden Globe Awards had a controversy when its Twitter page show a photo of Ferrera announcing the nominees in December and credited her as Golden Globe winner Gina Rodríguez (in a since-deleted tweet shown at left). Longoria and Ferrera addressed the controversy by saying who they were and then naming Latina actresses that they weren't. (For the record, they are neither Eva Mendes nor Gina Rodríguez nor Rosario Dawson. They are most likely neither Salma Hayek nor Charo.)
