HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. 2015 HOLA Award recipients Modesto Flako Jiménez and Mathia Vargas, shown at right, in character, were featured in American Theatre magazine for their 2015 HOLA Award-winning role in the production Yoleros. Written by Álex Vásquez Escaño and directed by Martín Balmaceda, the show is being remounted in December by Brooklyn Gypsies and Teátrica at The Bushwick Starr, located in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood. Nicolet Lisotto booked a commercial for Simply Straight hairbrush.


Maritza Vives and 2015 HOLA Award recipient Edward Azcorra, shown above, left to right, were featured in the Arte NY blog (written by 2015 HOLA Performer's Choice Award recipient J. Edgar Mozoub, please see below), where they are performing in Dinorah Coronado's Secreto de mujeres. Directed by Edison Carrera, the play consist of two productions– one with an all-female cast playing the principals, and one with an all-male cast playing the principals (Vives and Azcorra are, incidentally, playing the same role). The production will be presented by Teatro Tocando Puertas in December at the Poet's Den Theatre in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood. To read the blog, which is in Spanish, click here.

Marco Antonio Rodríguez has announced that his award-winning play La Luz de un cigarrillo will be remounted in February 2016. Exact show dates, a theater, and full casting (Teresa Yenque has been announced as reviving her role as Lydia) for the HOLA Award-winning production are still to be announced.


Luis Salgado, shown at left, was interviewed in Broadway World Spain, where he talked about his life as an actor, singer, dancer, producer, and Broadway performer (specifically his current stint in the Broadway musical On Your Feet!: The Story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan; book by 2015 HOLA Awards honoree Alexander Dinelaris, music by Gloria and Emilio Estefan, directed by Jerry Mitchell, and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo). To read the interview, which is in Spanish, click here.
