HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Víctor Cruzshown at rightwrote, directed, co-produced and stars in the feature film The Stockroom, which won three awards at the L.A. Indie Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. The feature film, also starring April Lee Hernández and Liza Colón-Zayas and co-produced by Elaine Del Valle, won Best Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Feature Film (all for Cruz). Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja) will be performing on a double bill with Nene Ali. The evening will feature Desmar Guevara and DJ DP-One and is presented by Young Roots Performance Series and Pepatián, it will take place on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Repertory Theater at the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture, located in the Mott Haven neighborhood in the South Bronx. 2015 HOLA Awards recipient Natalia Ivana Escobar, shown at right in the photo at left, stars in the film Latiner (directed by Inés Gowland, shown at left in the photo at left), which won Best Film honors at the Official Latino Short Film Festival (OLSFF) in New York City. The short film also stars María Fontanals and María del Mar Velásquez.

Carlo Lorenzo García's comedy webseries "Under Covers", which he produces, co-writes, and in which he stars as Detective Jimmy Cortez, is now an official selection at two film festivals: Columbus International Film + Video Festival (scheduled to take place in November in Columbus, Ohio), and the Paragon Film Festival (scheduled to take place in October in Santa Monica, California). 2015 HOLA Awards recipient Héctor Luis Rivera and TEBA is presenting Elenita. Based on work by Federico García Lorca, it is adapted by Rivera and directed by Raúl Rivera [no relation] and will be presented in October as part of the Lorca Al Desnudo III/eARTh Theater Festival at the Teatro Rafael Villalona, located at the Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

Paul Montoya and Telba Cavero will star in the GOTA production of Fuego en Granada. Written by Tomás Urtusástegui, it is adapted and directed by J. Edgar Mozoub, and will be presented in October as part of the Lorca Al Desnudo III/eARTh Theater Festival at the Teatro Rafael Villalona, located at the Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.
