HOLA Member Bochinche


Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Rhina Valentín, shown at right, will read some of her published work from the literary anthology Breaking Ground: Anthology of Pueto Rican Women Writers in New York 1980/2012/Abriendo caminos: antología de escritoras puertorriqueñas en Nueva York 1980-2012 (edited by Myrna Nieves) for a reading on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the MNN El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center in Manhattan's East Harlem Neighborhood. David Vega let us know that the film Cut To Black (written and directed by Dan Eberle and in which he stars), won the Audience Award at the recent Brooklyn Film Festival. For more information, click here.

Paloma, a short film written by Lina Gallegos and Yolanda Romersa based on a stage musical play by Gallegos, will be screened on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Mist Harlem Theater located in (natch) Manhattan's Harlem neighborhood as part of the New York City Independent Film Festival (NYCIFF). Directed by and starring Romersa, the film also stars Steven Bauer, Natasha Pérez and Patrick Reese. For more information, click here or here.

Luis Bordoy, shown at left, booked a role in the upcoming film God's Pocket (from Park Pictures Features), directed by John Slattery and starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christina Hendricks, Richard Jenkins and John Turturro. The film is scheduled for release in 2014.

Jeannie Sol
will be one of the performers for the benefit gala of The Ali Forney Center, which benefits homeless LGBTQ youth. The benefit will take place on Saturday, June 16, 2013 at Hardware, located in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan. For more information, click here.
