A forum for Latinos and their supporters to connect and sustain one another in English- and Spanish-language media, as well as feature a conversation with a speaker, screening or panel discussion.

8:30PM: Tío Louie CONVERSATION with  J.W. Cortés, a leading actor featured on NBC's action reality competition show "Stars Earn Stripes," and wrote and directed the short film Conscientious Objector.

9:00PM: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Hugo Pérez by screening his short film Betty La Flaca, winner of the 2006 HBO/NYILFF Short Film Competition.

Magdalena Albizu

Magdalena Albizu  
Magdalena has extensive film and TV production experience, having worked on: MTV Music Awards, I am Legend, Memphis on the big screen, 50 Cent's Power and Money and PBS.  She continues to work in production at Spike TV on various projects, such as: All Access Weekly, Madden 2011 Battlefield, Spare Time, Playbook and Weekend Pre-Game.  As one of the founders of Mezcla Media Market, Magdalena created the Long Island Latino International Film Festival (LILIFF) in 2004. She received her BA in Sociology from the University of Florida and her MA in Social Work from Adelphi University. Magdalena is currently in pre-production for NEGRITA, a documentary about the Afro-Latina identity and experience in the United States.

J.W. Cortes 
Starring in NBC's Stars Earn Stripes, J.W. was featured alongside Sarah Palin's husband, Alaska businessman and four-time Iron Dog snowmobile race champion, Todd Palin. His filmography includes As Good as Dead (with Cary Elwes & Andie McDowell), A Kiss Of Chaos with Adam Rodriquez (Magic Mike, CSI: Miami) and the soon-to-be-released Blue Caprice (Joey Lauren Adams, Isaiah Washington). In addition to his acting experience, J.W. served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 13 years and currently serves as a Police Officer with the New York MTA Police Department.



  Hugo Perez
Hugo Perez
Hugo is a director, producer, and writer whose work often focuses on his Cuban heritage. He is the recipient of the 2009 NALIP Estela Award for Documentary Filmmaking. In 2008, he was the recipient of the prestigious Rockefeller Foundation/Tribeca Film Institute Emerging Artist Fellowship in support of his feature screenplay Immaculate Conception. He is the Producer & Director of the documentary feature Neither Memory Nor Magic which explores the life, work, and legacy of the Hungarian poet, Miklos Radnoti who died in 1944 during the Holocaust. He is currently developing Gabacho a screenplay being co-written with Adrian Martinez.
