HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting and performance gigs. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface.

Judy Torres, shown at right, will be one of the stars of the stage play Black Latina (written by Crystal Shaniece Román and directed by Verónica Caicedo). Torres received the audition for the role through an HOLA referral. She joins Teniece Johnson, Iman Richardson, Jenelle Simone, Anaridia Burgos, Roberta Little and Nubia Santos in the cast. The production will take place in September at Teatro LATEA, located in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. For more information, click here, here or here. In addition, the recording artist and radio personality will be singing her hit tunes at the Copacabana Rooftop (located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan) on September 2, 2012 and at the Hoboken Italian Festival (in Hoboken, New Jersey) on September 7, 2012. MeLu Communications Group and Latin Jazz USA Productions, in association with Ollantay Center for the Arts, are presenting the world premiere of Cuba: Punto X. Written and directed by Iván Acosta, the play stars Lucio Fernández, Raoul Bretón and Dalia Davi and boasts sound design by Frank Rodríguez and choreography by Raymond Polanco. The production will have a September run at The Producers Club Theaters, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. For more information, click here.

La Paloma Prisoner, a play written by Raquel Almazán, was selected to participate at the 9th Women's Playwrights International Conference in Stockholm, Sweden. The conference will take place August 15-20, 2012 at Södra Teatern and Dramalabbet in the heart of Stockholm. For more information, click here or here.

Lorraine Rodríguez filmed additional segments of the hidden camera, ethical dilemma series "What Would You Do?" for ABC News (hosted by John Quiñones).
