HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members who are getting acting and performance gigs.

We start off our bochinche on a great note. Actor-dancer-choreographer (and HOLA awardee) Sunilda Caraballo and her partner Eric Greenlund welcomes a healthy boy into the world. Eric Antonio Greenlund Caraballo, shown at right, was born the evening on July 16, 2010 weighing 9 lbs. 5 oz. and measuring 22 inches in length. In the words of the proud mama, she is "fully recovered and enjoying motherhood."

Jean-Marc Berne was selected to be the announcer for the new McDonald's McRib national Spanish radio commercial.

Steven Vega booked a role on the Onion News Network (online parody of CNN) through an e-mail casting notice he received through HOLA. He played a patron at a Gay Pride parade. You can see a photo of him in character at left.

Gilbert Cruz also booked a role on the Onion News Network, but as a FEMA spokesperson. In addition, he booked a role on the HBO drama "In Treatment."

Sylvia Roldán Dohi booked a Spanish voiceover for JumpStart (Safeway's employee fitness challenge).

Mariangélica Cuervo, shown at right, e-mailed us to let us know that she booked two commercials through an HOLA casting notice. They were for Party Wine Jeunesse and Tortillas Mixtecas. You can see them here and here.

HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members who are getting acting and performance gigs.

Phoenix Ximénez, shown at left, e-mailed us to let us know that she booked a video shoot for the American Revolution Museum through an HOLA casting notice. While at the shoot, she met someone who was producing a fundraiser who then asked her to perform at it. Miss Kim's Cabaret-Fest Fundraiser took place at The Metropolitan Room in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and donations went to the Bellevue Rape Crisis Center. In addition, a director saw her headshot and resume on the HOLA online directory and called her in to audition for an independent feature film. After three callbacks, she booked the role. Finally, she writes, "Dear HOLA, I just want to thank you for the services you offer to us as members. There are a lot of things happening for me as a result of having an HOLA membership. There are many opportunities available for training, networking and to meet high profile people in the industry. Of course, if we’re not proactive with our memberships we cannot benefit from what HOLA has to offer. It’s turning out to be a busy year and I can’t thank you enough for helping me get closer to my goals. Being an HOLA member works!"

Jean-Marc Berne let us know that he just recorded a radio voiceover for McDonald's, can be seen in an on-camera internet commercial for Partagas Cigars and has been chosen to introduce the line of bilingual audiobooks entitled No-Work Spanish.

Caridad De La Luz released her latest album of music under her nom de musique La Bruja. The album For Witch It Stands, available from De La Luz Records (album cover shown at right), can be purchased on iTunes here. The album contains guest appearances from Celina González, Joell Ortiz and Yomo Toro.

Paola Poucel acted in the film Ilegales (directed by Ric Dupont), which screened at the recent New York Independent Latino Film Festival.

Alfonso Ramírez, shown at left, acted in the film Mariachi (directed by Ellen Greenlee) which also screened at the recent New York Independent Latino Film Festival. The director picked his headshot from the HOLA directory of talent and called him in to audition.

HOLA Legends: Rita Moreno

Rita Moreno, born Rosa Dolores Alverío on December 11, 1931, is a Puerto Rican singer, dancer and actress. She is the first and only Hispanic and one of ten performers who have won an Emmy (one for "The Muppet Show" and one for "The Rockford Files"), a Grammy (for The Electric Company album, a Tony (for The Ritz) and an Oscar (for West Side Story), and at the time the second Puerto Rican to win an Academy Award.

This clip shows Ms. Moreno as Googie Gómez singing her big musical number in the film version of Terrence McNally's The Ritz.
